Richard A. Gonzalez

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Richard A. Gonzalez is a Senior Associate with Olivarez Madruga Lemieux O’ Neill, LLP. Mr. Gonzalez represents school districts in matters involving special education, student issues, labor and employment, and charter schools. Mr. Gonzalez’s experience includes petitioning and responding to special education due process complaints, appeals of OAH proceedings, student discipline proceedings, parent residency disputes, student’s first amendment rights and student/public records requests. Mr. Gonzalez also handles charter school petition reviews, the Proposition 39 school facilities allocations process, and Charter Schools Act litigation. Mr. Gonzalez frequently attends school district board meetings and is knowledgeable of Brown Act requirements and applications. Mr. Gonzalez has trained and updated school district staff on various practices including student discipline, anti-discrimination compliance issues and IEP/Section 504 requirements.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Gonzalez coordinated an after-school program for 100 students where he supervised and trained five program leaders to implement the curricula, provide academic tutoring, physical education, and enrichment learning.

In his spare time, Mr. Gonzalez engages in legal theory, jurisprudence and constitutional theory.
