OMLO Senior Associate Susie Altamirano recently had the honor of being invited to speak at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ (NALEO) 15th Biennial National Institute for Newly Elected Officials, held in Dallas, Texas on November 19-21, 2024. The National Institute for Newly Elected Officials aims to provide emerging Latino leaders with the essential tools to begin their careers as public servants. In a session entitled “Knowing the Rules – The Superpower to be an Effective Policymaker,” Susie and fellow speakers Hon. Judith A. García (Massachusetts State Representative), Hon. Roger Garcia (Chair, Douglas County, Nebraska), and Marsha Thornton (President, Manifest Resolutions Consulting Company) discussed the ins and outs of the policymaking process, sharing their insights and experience with an audience of newly-elected public officials from various local municipal and county government agencies across the country.
Founded in 1981 by the late Congressman Edward Roybal, grandfather of OMLO’s founder and Managing Partner Rick Olivarez, the NALEO Educational Fund is the nation’s leading non-profit, non-partisan organization that aims to facilitate and encourage Latino participation in all aspects of the American political process, from citizenship to public service.
