OMLO seeks a mid-level (5-8 years) public law lawyer/litigator. Duties will include working closely with public agency clients, reviewing and drafting contracts in all areas, handling daily municipal law questions, assisting with drafting council meeting agendas and opinion memoranda. Attorney will work in a fast paced, but exciting environment and deal with the City Manager’s office and staff. Must have excellent research and writing skills, organizational skills, communication skills and knowledge of Brown Act. Prior experience in employment and civil rights matters a plus.

Experience in the areas of land use and zoning and the California Environmental Quality Act are strongly preferred.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work closely with public agency staff to review, edit and draft transactional documents, prepare analysis and strategies in connection with the same and interface with regulators, developers and elected officials. We are seeking an experienced Paralegal to add to our team. The Paralegal for this position must demonstrate proficient legal research and writing skills, have an ability to think critically, and read and understand complex legal documents. Must have good proofreading skills, reviewing for accuracy and content. Must have strong organizational and time-management skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple assignments and properly establish priorities. The Paralegal should also possess the ability to work with all levels of staff, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and have a general knowledge of computers, the Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as legal research programs, particularly Westlaw.

The right candidate will be able to conduct research on any area of law assigned. Focus is likely to be on insurance defense, labor and employment, and municipal law. Duties may include, but not be limited to:

  • Written responses to discovery.
  • Trial prep.
  • Preparation of comprehensive legal memorandum.
  • Drafting petitions and pleadings.
  • Reviewing and summarizing medical records.
  • Updating library books and materials.
  • Helping to maintain an inventory of materials for each office.
  • Providing assistance and training to the Law Clerks.
  • Maintaining a log of assignments received.
  • General management of the assigned work.

Legal experience should include the areas of land use and zoning, including the California Environmental Quality Act, municipal code compliance and enforcement, conflict of interest and ethics, public bidding, the Brown Act and Public Records Act, and Proposition 218.

Attorney shall draft and review resolutions, ordinances, contracts and other transactional documents, perform legal research on a range of public law topics, and prepare legal memoranda advising clients. Candidates must possess excellent research, writing, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work both cooperatively with others and independently, as circumstances demand, and must show a strong ability to take initiative and problem solve.
