Paloma Perez-McEvoy Interviewed by The Daily Journal’s Cal Lawyer About the Practice of Municipal Law – “A Career With Real World Impact”

Paloma Perez-McEvoy was recently interviewed by the Daily Journal for their Cal Lawyer site about the practice of Municipal Law and the reasons why new attorneys may want to consider a career in this rewarding field.

In both a written profile and video feature, Paloma discusses her work – from her role as co-chair of the firm’s Municipal Law Practice Group to serving as city attorney for several Los Angeles-area cities and advising public agencies including school districts – explaining that municipal law requires a wide-spanning expertise.

“You’re really a jack of all trades,” she tells Cal Lawyer, noting that municipal work can be extremely complex. “You have to be knowledgeable in various aspects of the law.”

“You’re here to be able to provide that roadmap and give the decision makers… that toolbox and that understanding so that they can make a fully informed decision,” she explains.

Paloma encourages aspiring municipal lawyers to prioritize building adaptability, and highlights the long-term viability of the practice area as one of its strengths.

“There’s always work to be done,” she shares. “And even in times of dire straits, you know, people look to attorneys to help solve their problems.”

She adds that the direct connection between her legal work and her community’s outcomes is “one of the more rewarding parts about being a municipal attorney.”

“[…] The idea of being able to provide a tangible good, that’s, I think, the rewarding part of this job,” she concludes.
