For the month of May, Olivarez Madruga will be participating in its first Food from the Bar campaign, benefiting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. For the past eight years, law firms and legal offices throughout Los Angeles County have engaged in friendly competition to see who can raise the most funds, food, and volunteer hours.
Just last year, Feeding America deemed Los Angeles County as having the largest food insecure population in the United States, with more than 1.4 million residents affected by food insecurity. Since 1973, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has distributed more than 1 billion pounds of food. It provides food to 320,000 people every month, and in 2015 alone, distributed 52 million meals – that’s more than 62 million pounds of food. The Food Bank collects food from hundreds of resources, which – with the help of 27,000 volunteers annually – it serves to more than 320,000 individuals on a monthly basis. Ninety-seven percent of revenue raised goes directly to programs.
Olivarez Madruga is proud to have been among the many volunteers on-site at the Los Angeles Food Bank this past Mother’s Day weekend, putting together more than 4,000 kits to be distributed to senior citizens throughout Los Angeles County.
For every $1 donated, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is able to provide four meals. If you are interested in making a contribution, please click here.
