Through the use of literature, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’s Literally Healing program helps uplift the spirits of children with serious illnesses, physical limits or disabilities during their stay at the hospital. Olivarez Madruga recently began partnering with CHLA and Literally Healing. Volunteers read carefully selected books, to which the patients can relate their experiences, paving a path for the children to express any fears or concerns to their families or caregiver—something they may not have initially been comfortable with doing. Terence Gallagher, Olivarez Madruga Partner, was the first from the Firm to spend time with the children. Recounting his experience, Terence says, “Claire Austin and Literally Healing are truly wonderful. What they do helps so many children and families—it was a tremendous honor and extremely rewarding to participate even in a small way with their Story Corner. ”
