On November 23, 2014, Rick R. Olivarez, Managing Shareholder, and Isabel Birrueta, Shareholder, had the honor of being invited to speak at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ (NALEO) 10th Biennial National Institute for Newly Elected Officials, held in Washington, D.C. The National Institute for Newly Elected Officials is a “boot camp” for newly elected public servants offering local and national experts speaking on a variety of topics, including Latino leadership, media management, budgets, public finance and staffing to provide these leaders with the tools they will need as they begin their careers as public servants. With a topic of Ethics, Mr. Olivarez offered his expertise on how to maintain longevity throughout a career in politics and steps to take to “avoid indictment,” while Ms. Birrueta followed up with tips on what to do when your public agency is investigated by enforcement authorities.
NALEO facilitates the full participation of Latinos in the American political process, from citizenship to public service by developing and implementing programs promoting the integration of Latino immigrants into American society, developing future leaders among Latino youth, providing assistance and training to Latino elected and appointed officials and conducting research on issues important to the Latino population.
