OMLO partner Tania Ochoa recently secured a significant defense victory on behalf of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) in a high-exposure childhood sexual abuse matter when on May 22, 2026, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County granted LAUSD’s motion for summary judgment, resolving the case before trial.
The ruling disposed of the Plaintiffs’ claims of alleged negligence and the District’s purported failure to properly hire, supervise, retain, and respond to concerns involving a teacher. In the case of Jane L.N. Doe and Jane Y.M. Doe v. Los Angeles Unified School District, the District defended the matter through discovery and dispositive motion practice, ultimately seeking summary judgment on the grounds that the Plaintiffs could not establish the necessary elements of their claims against the District.
By obtaining summary judgment, LAUSD avoided the expense and uncertainty of trial and secured a resolution of the claims in the District’s favor.
