Tania Ochoa recently secured summary judgment on behalf of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) in a childhood sexual abuse lawsuit involving allegations of negligence and negligent hiring, retention, and supervision.
In Mary Bolden v. Doe 1, the Plaintiff brought claims of sexual abuse and negligence against LAUSD.
Following discovery, Ochoa, on behalf of LAUSD, moved for summary judgment and summary adjudication, challenging the Plaintiff’s ability to establish the necessary elements of the claims. On March 12, 2025, the Court issued its ruling in favor of LAUSD, dismissing the case and preventing it from proceeding to jury trial.
This result demonstrates the importance of addressing the evidentiary and legal requirements necessary to establish liability against a public school district.
