Michael Campion

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Michael Campion is a Senior Associate with Olivarez Madruga Lemieux O’Neill, LLP’s Municipal Law practice group. Mr. Campion brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the firm’s practice, accrued over a decade as a Research Attorney for the Central Division of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. His time with the Superior Court included daily direct work with judicial officers in the civil trial courts, as well as oversight roles in various specialized assignments. Mr. Campion also served as a Research Attorney for the Writs and Receivers Departments.

During his time with the civil trial courts, Mr. Campion developed an expert command of the California Code of Civil Procedure, providing guidance and recommendations to judicial officers. He has broad familiarity with civil litigation, particularly including employment discrimination and wrongful termination claims, claims against public entities, asbestos-related and toxic tort claims, and the civil litigation of leadership disputes in religious and cultural organizations. As a senior Research Attorney for the Writs and Receivers Departments, Mr. Campion provided recommendations on quasi-appellate review of public agency conduct and state and local administrative adjudications focused on personnel matters and professional license discipline. Mr. Campion also dealt extensively with the review of various land-use decisions and CEQA determinations, as well as the review of the procedural aspects of legislative and administrative governance, the assessment of the constitutionality of statutes and regulations, constitutional challenges to local fee ordinances, and the review of the propriety of ballot materials and elections. Mr. Campion currently advises municipalities on compliance with the Brown Act, the California Public Records Act, and the conflict of interest provisions of the Political Reform Act. He also drafts policies and ordinances to assist our clients in realizing their vision for their cities..
